See Africa through our eyesTourism Update Online has confirmed that Namibian border posts have been closed to overland tours as drivers are not being issued with temporary work permits to travel into the country.
As a result, tour operators vehicles are standing stationary at border posts.
The Namibian Tourism Board is aware of the situation and is expected to release a statement this afternoon.

Good people make a trip so easy and a pleasure to guide! And it doesn’t take much, just plain old good manners and an understanding and experience base that comes from much travelling around. And being English also helps!
I am a retired accountant/businessman 60+ based in Johannesburg. I have time on my hands to enjoy interacting with quality overseas (and local) guests. I will ensure they have a fascinating and relaxing visit to South Africa.
I plan to link up with small groups of up to six visitors at a time and be available for the duration of their stay in Gauteng and beyond. I would be happy to fit in with their plans and schedules. I have a PDP (Public Drivers Permit) and can provide necessary transport. - eg Game reserve trips, World Cup
Games, Motor Bike trips, Cycling trips, transfers..... etc

1. THE SIGNATORIES
We have to work closely with Coach drivers all the time so when we get guys who are good at their job, it is only fitting that we complement them.
It is finally coming together, the finalisation of efforts to establish the National Federation of Tourist Guide Associations.
We have approached the National Department of Tourism for financial assistance but, unfortunately the budget does not allow it at this stage. A promise to incorporate the Federation in the new budget has been made.
Why do Lodges and Hotels place Guides and Coach Drivers in such poor accommodation when travelling with clients? I know they need "Bums in Beds".. but hey? what are we?? Without us, the tour won't happen in the 1st place. We are the KEY ELEMENTS for the tours to succeed and yet we have to sleep in rooms that are sometimes not even fit for staff members.
I offer a transport service for guides that need get to / from the airport or their place of work.
Avoid the hassle and expense of parking, or asking friends/family for a lift!
I will fetch you at home, and take you directly to where you need to be.
And of course I will fetch you at the end of your tour and get you home without you having the additional stress of driving in the traffic.
I operate mainly in north/west of Jhb, but can consider other areas too.
My rates start from R200 for a basic airport transfer, one way.
