The World Cup and Pricing

Hi all, finally guiding after three months waiting for my badge and feeling like a criminal showing everyone my letter to prove I was a guide )).

Just wanted comments on the pricing of our services, especially those of us that are foreign language guide, for next year's WC. We need to be careful not to be too greedy but being mindful of the fact that agents and operators will be creaming it as well off our backs. So any guidance from the Elite members out there and those more experienced would be most welcome.

Happy guiding,
Roger

Kloofendal Educational and year end function 14 December 2009

We are planning an educational / Christmas function at Kloofendal on Monday 14th December 2009.

Come to Kloofendal at 10h00 and the Friends of Kloofendal will take us to see the oldest gold workings on the Witwatersrand. (Comfortable shoes and sun protection is suggested as the walk is about 2 – 3 hours long. A torch is also nice to have)
Afterwards we’ll chill out round a braai.

FIFA WORLD CUP - A WORD OF ADVICE TO TOURIST GUIDES.

We are all very excited that South Africa is having the World Cup here next year. It has created many jobs for people that otherwise would not have an income.

It has been responsible for new highways and upgrades at airports and hotels.. One cannot but stand in awe about all the positive things that are happening in this beautiful country of ours..

Entance fee for Three Rondawels from 1 Dec 2009

Dear all

Please note and inform the correct stake holders that as from the first of December 2009 a minimum entrance fee for the three Rondawels view site will be implemented. The approved tariff is R5 per vehicle by the tariff committee, as a start it will be reviewed next year April.

It must be noted that all along the site was free to the public ,so we are going to start very small and increase the fee as the service conditions increase.

Kind regards

Necessity of Basic First Aid

Well in the last week i realised again what the necessity of basic first aid to a tourist guide is. I guided a group of Americans to Kruger and stayed at the protea hotel Kruger gate We all know it rained the whole week and was really miserable for Game viewing especially on open game drive vehicles , but that is besides the point .We had a lady that sprained her back on the way up from Capetown and convinced me and the tour leader that she was fit to travel , but getting to KNP it took us more than 45 min.

WFTGA Banner for world marketing 2009

WFTGA Banner for world marketing 2009

At the World Federation of Tourist Guides conference in Bali in Jan 09 the conference adopted a banner which will be used for international marketing . This banner has the ability to have a world heritage site of the particular member country placed central to the banner so that each country may identify with this banner but still have the uniformity of the WFTGA marketing.
In preparing this banner for the world tourist guide day on 21 February 2010 we as South Africa need to agree on what icon South Africa would place central to this banner.
